🌫️ Canadian Wildfire Smoke Advisory 🌫️

You may notice hazy skies or the smell of smoke over the next few days as wildfire smoke from Canada impacts our area.
To help protect yourself and your family:
🏠 Limit prolonged outdoor activities, especially if air quality is poor.
😷 Those with asthma, heart or lung conditions, older adults, and young children should take extra precautions.
🐾 Keep pets indoors as much as possible and limit long walks during periods of poor air quality.
🚪 Keep windows closed when practical and consider using your air conditioning or an air purifier if available.
💧 Stay hydrated and monitor local air quality conditions before spending extended time outside.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) can change throughout the day, so it’s a good idea to check local conditions before heading outdoors.

🦇Bat Houses: Another Way to Help Keep Mosquitoes in Check🦇

Mosquitoes have been a hot topic in our community lately, and while Walnut Hills continues to receive professional mosquito abatement treatments, there are additional ways homeowners can help.
Bats are natural insect eaters and can consume large numbers of flying insects, including mosquitoes, each night. While they’re not a replacement for our community’s mosquito abatement program, a properly installed bat house can provide another natural tool to help reduce insect populations.
If you’re interested in installing one, Bat Conservation International recommends:
• Mounting the bat house 10–20 feet above the ground
• Choosing a location that receives 6–8 hours of direct sunlight each day
• Being patient - bats may take some time to discover and occupy a new bat house

🚧Heads Up, Walnut Hills: Road Construction on US 20 (Lake Street) Begins in July🚧

If you regularly travel on US 20 (Lake Street) through Bartlett, you may want to plan a little extra time for your commute beginning in July.
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has a scheduled project to improve the intersection of US 20 (Lake Street), Bartlett Road, and Oak Avenue. According to IDOT, this is a safety improvement project with an estimated construction value of approximately $3.06 million as part of the State’s Rebuild Illinois capital program.
What is the project?
IDOT identifies the work as an intersection improvement at:
• US 20 (Lake Street)
• Bartlett Road
• Oak Avenue
The Village of Bartlett is also advancing a related Oak Avenue Roadway Realignment Project, which will realign Oak Avenue from Hickory Avenue north to Bartlett Avenue near Lake Street. The Village has stated that this work will require coordination with IDOT, utility companies, and future construction phases as engineering progresses.
What can drivers expect?
While IDOT has not yet released a detailed lane closure schedule for this project, drivers should expect normal work zone conditions, including:
• Temporary lane closures
• Reduced speed limits through the construction zone
• Changing traffic patterns
• Possible delays during peak travel times
As always, please slow down, stay alert, and use extra caution when traveling through construction areas.
Why is this important?
This intersection serves as one of the primary east west travel corridors through Bartlett and is used daily by residents, commuters, school traffic, and local businesses. The planned improvements are intended to enhance traffic operations and improve safety.

🌳Special Brush Collection – Monday, June 29 🌳

Following this week’s storms, the Village of Bartlett has announced a special brush collection for portions of the community.
Please have all storm brush placed in the parkway by 7:00 AM on Monday, June 29.
Important reminders:
No bundling is required for this special collection.
Crews will make one pass only through the designated area.
Brush must be out by 7:00 AM Monday to be collected.
If you miss this special collection, remaining options include:
Holding debris for the Village’s scheduled October unbundled brush pickup.
Bundling brush according to Groot’s regular collection guidelines.
Thank you to the Village of Bartlett and Public Works crews for their continued efforts following the recent storms.
🦟Mosquito Treatment Reschedule🦟

Due to the severe storms in our area today, the scheduled Clarke mosquito barrier treatment has been rescheduled to Friday, June 19, 2026
Most importantly, please stay safe as the storms move through our area.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as weather conditions can sometimes impact treatment schedules. Clarke will return on Friday to complete the application as planned.
🦟Mosquito Treatment Coverage Review and Additional Service Visit🦟

Following homeowner questions regarding treatment coverage in certain areas of the subdivision, the Board worked directly with Clarke Mosquito Control to review the most recent application.
During that review, Clarke determined they were unable to fully validate portions of the treatment route due to unavailable GPS tracking data. As a result, Clarke proactively scheduled an additional full-route application for Walnut Hills at no additional cost to the Association.
This additional service visit was performed to ensure complete treatment coverage throughout the community and was separate from the regularly scheduled bi-weekly treatment cycle.
The Board appreciates Clarke’s responsiveness and willingness to take a proactive approach to ensuring Walnut Hills receives the level of service expected by homeowners.
🦟Mosquito Treatment Program Begins for 2026 Season🦟

Clarke Mosquito Control began the 2026 mosquito abatement program throughout Walnut Hills on June 3.
Scheduled treatment dates for the 2026 season include:
June 3
June 17
July 1
July 15
July 29
August 12
These treatments help reduce mosquito activity within common areas and conservancy-adjacent locations throughout the community.
Homeowners are reminded to avoid treated areas for approximately 15 minutes following application and to keep pets away during that time.
