Architectural Requests

Projects Requiring Prior Approval

Homeowners should submit plans and specifications before beginning projects such as:

• Fences

• Dog runs

• Swimming pools and spas

• Decks and patios

• Enclosed porches

• Gazebos

• Attached and detached structures

• Major landscaping projects

• Tree removals

• Other exterior additions or improvements

Plans and specifications must be submitted for review before construction or installation begins.  

Fence Guidelines

Walnut Hills has specific fence requirements, including:

• Wood picket fences only

• Maximum height of 4 feet

• No chain-link or stockade fencing

• No fencing within conservation or easement areas

• No rear lot perimeter fencing

• Additional location restrictions may apply

Homeowners should review the Rules and Regulations for complete fence requirements prior to submitting an application.  

Tree Removal

No established or original trees may be removed without prior approval except in certain circumstances involving dead, diseased, or hazardous trees. Replacement requirements may apply.  

Village Permits

Association approval does not replace any permits required by the Village of Bartlett. Homeowners are responsible for obtaining any necessary permits and complying with all applicable local ordinances.  

Submit an Architectural Request

Architectural requests should be submitted through the AppFolio Resident Portal. Before submitting, please gather:

• Completed Architectural request form

• Site plan or survey (if applicable)

• Drawings, specifications, or contractor proposals

• Material and color selections

• Photos or examples of the proposed improvement (if applicable)

Review Process

Complete submissions help expedite the review process.

1. Submit your application through the AppFolio Resident Portal.

2. Upload all supporting documentation and photographs.

3. The Board of Directors will review the request.

4. Homeowners may monitor the status of their request through AppFolio.

Please do not begin construction or installation until approval has been received.
